About Health Care Givers
Health Care Givers Association of Zambia(HCGAZ) is a non-faith-based healthcare association registered under the registrar of societies in accordance with the societies Act cap 119 of the laws of Zambia.
The objectives of the Association, among others, are to supplement government efforts in improving healthcare service delivery to the old aged, homeless children, chronic ill patients in their homes, Hospitals, Clinics, Homecare/Hospices in line with Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and enhance wider coverage of quality healthcare services in the country.
Our Vision

The Objectives
To provide easy access to promotional, preventive, and rehabilitative services for
the elderly through a community-based primary health care approach.
To identify health problems in the elderly and provide appropriate health
interventions with appropriate referral backup support in the community
To enhancing the ability of medical and paramedical professionals as well as
family caregivers to provide health care for the elderly
To providing referral services to elderly patients through district hospitals and
regional medical institutions
To convergence with other line departments such as the ministry of community
development and social services

Geriatrics Technical Working Group (GTWG)
Background
The Geriatrics Technical Working Group (GTWG) is a technical working group established by the Health Care Givers Association of Zambia (HCGAZ) to promote the health and well-being of older adults in Zambia. The GTWG is composed of experts from various disciplines, including geriatrics, gerontology, nursing, social work, and research.
Mandate
The mandate of the GTWG is to:
1. Provide technical guidance: Provide technical guidance on geriatrics and gerontology to HCGAZ members, healthcare providers, and policymakers.
2. Promote geriatric care: Promote the development of geriatric care services in Zambia, including the establishment of geriatric clinics and training programs for healthcare providers.
3. Advocate for older adults: Advocate for the rights and interests of older adults in Zambia, including access to healthcare, social services, and economic empowerment.
4. Conduct research and surveillance: Conduct research and surveillance on geriatrics and gerontology in Zambia, including the collection and analysis of data on the health and well-being of older adults.
Objectives
The objectives of the GTWG are to:
1. Improve healthcare services: Improve healthcare services for older adults in Zambia, including the development of geriatric care guidelines and protocols.
2. Increase awareness: Increase awareness about geriatrics and gerontology among healthcare providers, policymakers, and the general public.
3. Promote healthy aging: Promote healthy aging among older adults in Zambia, including the promotion of physical activity, healthy eating, and social engagement.
4. Support caregivers: Support caregivers of older adults in Zambia, including the provision of training and resources.
Membership
The GTWG consists of members from various disciplines, including:
1. Geriatricians: Geriatricians and other healthcare providers with expertise in geriatrics and gerontology.
2. Nurses: Nurses with expertise in gerontological nursing.
3. Social workers: Social workers with expertise in gerontological social work.
4. Researchers: Researchers with expertise in gerontology and geriatrics.
5. Policymakers: Policymakers and stakeholders with an interest in geriatrics and gerontology.
Activities
The GTWG undertakes various activities, including:
1. Meetings: Regular meetings to discuss technical issues and plan activities.
2. Training and capacity building: Training and capacity-building programs for healthcare providers and caregivers.
3. Research and surveillance: Research and surveillance activities to collect and analyze data on geriatrics and gerontology.
4. Advocacy: Advocacy activities to promote the rights and interests of older adults.
5. Collaboration: Collaboration with other stakeholders, including government ministries, NGOs, and private sector organizations.
